This year sees the 66th birthday of PFSCL, one of the oldest of Pompey’s supporters clubs. Over the last 66 years the membership of the supporters club has swelled and contracted in size; in parallel with the fortunes of PFC on and off of the pitch. Despite the many ups and downs PFSCL is still going strong and serving around 200 exiled fans, from all over the UK, and as far away as China.
In our heyday we had pool, darts and football teams to be reckoned with; playing in the leagues of the Association of Provisional Football Supporters Clubs in London (APFSCIL). They were competitive both on the pitch and at the bar, after the final whistle had been blown/the eight ball had been sunk. We also ran regular away travel for those that wanted to follow the fortunes of Pompey on the road, and provided a valuable source of information for exiled fans in the form of our newsletter The Chimes. Whilst the internet has done much to change the life of football fans – information and cheaper train tickets, being just two examples – the London Supporters Club has continued to provide a focal point for exiled fans in and around the capital, who want to share their love of all things Pompey with like minded fans.
Unfortunately we do not run any of the sports teams at the moment (though we would if enough of our members expressed an interest) but we continue to follow in the footsteps of the founding members, by organising tickets to games (home and away), running the occasional away trip and competition, and hosting evenings with representatives from the club, both past and present.
We owe a great deal to the members who have stuck with us, for without their continued support there would not be a Portsmouth Football Supporters Club – London.
